Smiling seems to come naturally for some people. But those pearly whites are also major indicators of health and well-being. There is more scientific evidence than ever before linking oral health with overall health and chronic illness. The need for more access to dental services was expressed in the 2011 Community Health Needs Assessment, ranking the top health concerns of Kent County residents. Of the 44 priorities in the assessment, “ensuring access to dental care” was the fifth highest ranking concern. The Kent County Health Department (KCHD) worked to find a way to make dental care accessible to all residents.
