Letter to Parents

On 3/15/19 GRPS released lead sampling results that were submitted by MicroAir Consulting. The 2/19/19 Apex Research report tested eleven paint chip samples submitted by MicroAir on 2/15/19. Nine of the eleven samples had lead present but at a level too low to be considered lead based paint. Two of the eleven samples returned had lead levels high enough to be deemed lead-based paint (above 0.5% lead by weight). Please note that this is not lead dust but lead paint chips.

Currently we do not have lead dust samples. Lead dust is the most common source of lead exposure among children. While the risk of lead poisoning due to this finding is still uncertain, Kent County Health Department (KCHD) continues to offer free walk-in lead testing at our health department during clinic hours. However, it is always the recommended that you consult your family medical provider for continuity of care. Please feel free to contact KCHD Lead Program at 616-632-7063 with any questions you may have in regards to lead. We will continue to provide updated information as we learn more about this situation.

The clinic hours are:

  • Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri – 8am-11:30am & 12:45pm-4:45pm
  • 1st, 3rd, 5th Thursday of each month – 12:45pm-4:45pm
  • 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month – 10am-12:30pm, 1:45pm-6:45pm
