Employee Recognition For Quality Service
Previously Recognized Employees
1st Quarter 2014
Denise Terpstra from the Kent County Treasurer’s Office is recognized as the Kent County Quality Service Employee of the 1st Quarter for helping to fulfill Kent County’s mission by providing quality service to customers of Kent County.
The individual who nominated Denise wrote:
“Denise has calmed the nerves of many Kent County residents who are concerned about catching up on property taxes that they’ve fallen behind on as result of a hardship. She works with residents to understand their rights, responsibilities and timelines as it relates to their property taxes and directs them to community agencies that can best assist with various health, housing and other needs. She treats each person she talks to with respect and displays genuine empathy for those residents who just can’t seem catch a break. Denise directs residents towards both in-house resources (ex. hardship extension for property taxes) and other resources (city/township poverty exemptions, community agencies that have housing programs). Additionally, Denise has helped many Kent County residents retain homeownership, therefore strengthening the communities and neighborhoods of Kent County. Many of my clients have labeled Denise a “God-send,” “life-saver,” and “just awesome” among other things when describing their interactions with her. If someone is scared or nervous about addressing a tax issue, they will no-doubt come away from their conversation with Denise with a sense of hope and the ability to take a deep breath. To put it into one phrase, Denise cares. She genuinely cares about the lives and the well-being of her Kent County neighbors and does everything in her ability to ensure that all resources are explored for those in need.”
Number of Years Employed by Kent County: 17 years.
The hardest thing I’ve ever done: Raise my 2 children by myself.
Three people (living or dead) I’d invite to dinner: My dad, my brother Tom and Ernie Harwell.
You’d be surprised to learn that: I love to mow my grass.
The thing that I like most about working for Kent County is: Holding the position that I do, working with the public, and also working with some awesome co-workers.
Please join us in congratulating Denise Terpstra for earning Kent County’s Employee Recognition for Quality Service Award.
