Facts About the new Kent County Recycling & Education Center:
- Located at 977 Wealthy Street SW in Grand Rapids, MI
- Will process 18 tons per hour (compared to 4-6 tons per hour at the current facility
- Will process recyclables 6 hours per day (vs. 13 hours per day currently)
- Will process 108 tons of recyclables per day (vs. 40 tons per day currently)
- Will feature a 5,000 square foot education area that will offer two public meeting and classroom areas and a 125-foot long viewing platform to allow safe overhead viewing of the machinery processing recyclables.
- Will feature state-of-the-art technology that allows residents to mix their recycling together at the curb because the new sorting process includes a combination of conveyors, shakers, blowers and magnets and requires little hand sorting.
