Construction, Operation & Maintenance of Sewers
The Kent County DPW Utility Services Division,
under the direction of a professional engineer, provides assistance to communities within the County for the operation,
maintenance and new construction of their sewer systems. In the past and when requested, the DPW has provided assistance
in obtaining a lower rate in capital construction bonds.
Operation and Maintenance
The Utility Services Division operates lift stations, lagoon systems and gravity sewers in accordance with State and Federal requirements utilizing state licensed operators, electricians and mechanics. To maintain the system the Utility Services Division has a vactor truck capable of cleaning sewers and video equipment to document the condition of the sewers.
New Construction Projects
The Utility Services Division provides the expertise for the review and approval of new construction plans to ensure all projects meet the State and local government standards. The division works with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Environment (MDNR-E) to obtain the construction permit, completes the field inspection and documentation, and certifies the construction is complete for the issuance of the final operating permit.
