Computers, TVs & Electronics

Household computers and small consumer electronics can be recycled to help divert some of the potentially hazardous substances and recyclable materials from the landfill.

There is no cost for individuals to recycle the following items:
Computer tower and laptop, computer monitor, computer accessories (speakers, mouse, keyboard), scanner, printer, fax machine, copier, networking equipment, stereo, VCR, DVD player, video game player, video camera, digital camera, television, microwave, telephone, cell phone, pager.

Goodwill Retail & Donation Centers
Goodwill Industries offers a free program for consumers to reuse and recycle unwanted electronics. Bring your unwanted new or used technology to any local Goodwill store or donation center (listed below), and Goodwill will refurbish or recycle the equipment.
Note: remove all data from your hard drive before donating.

With this three-step process, you can recycle your used electronics in an enfornmentally-friendly way, and maybe even get a little extra green in your wallet! Once you've completed these steps, just use your pre-paid shipping label set to you via email to send in your device. As an extra bonus, you can keep track of your device and your rewards by checking your status on-line.

Have you heard about the digitial television transition?

Staples
Staples makes it easy for customers to recycle e–waste by simply bringing their used computers, monitors, laptops, and desktop printers, faxes and all–in–ones to any U.S. Staples store. They also have options for for recycling ink and toner cartridges, cell phones and other personal electronics, and rechargeable batteries. See their website or stores for details.

Dell
Dell currently offers consumers no-charge recycling of any brand of used computer or printer with the purchase of a new Dell computer or printer. This service includes home pick-up of the used computer at no charge. Under its new policy, Dell will provide consumers no-charge recycling of any Dell-branded product, regardless of whether a replacement product is purchased. See their website for more details.

Sony
Bring your unwanted Sony product to any participating Waste Management eCycling drop-off center and recycle it for free. See their website for details and participating locations.

Office Depot
Office Depot stores across the country are now offering a low cost recycling service for consumer electronics including everything from your computer to your digital camera and small televisions that will fit in the box. See their website or stores for details.

Costco
Trade in or recycle your old electronic equipment. The Trade-In Program is available to all customers of Costco who elect to trade in or recycle any qualifying consumer electronic product currently offered by the program. Based on the configuration and condition of your item, Costco will offer to purchase your item at the value displayed by the trade-in value estimator. You can use the online Value Estimator to display your potential trade-in value or send an item in for direct recycle.

HP
There are other options to handling a computer hardware product at the end of its useful life. HP offers product trade-in and leasing services in addition to recycling services.

Apple
Purchase any qualifying Apple computer or display and receive free recycling of your old computer and monitor — regardless of manufacturer. Apple’s free recycling program will also take back your iPod or any cell phone — regardless of manufacturer or model.

Gateway
As a recent Gateway customer, you can get cash for your pre-owned, working technology products. Or, you can recycle your used computer or electronics in accordance with environmental best practices.

Best Buy
Free recycling drop-off kiosks just inside the door of every single U.S. Best Buy store, are available for consumers to drop off old cell phones, rechargeable batteries, and ink-jet cartridges at no cost. Best Buy hosts and/or sponsors a series of weekend recycling events at its store parking lots across the U.S.

Cannon
The following types of Canon consumer products are eligible for recycling under the Canon Consumer Products Recycling Program. To determine if a particular model is eligible, visit their website.

Epson
Epson sponsors a product stewardship program that enables Epson customers to send back used Epson products for recycling. To determine if your product is accepted in Epson's recycling program, visit their website.

Lenovo
The Lenovo Recycling Service allows consumers and business customers to recycle any manufacturer's PCs, including system units, monitors, printers and optional attachments for $30.00, including shipping. Customers may purchase the Lenovo Recycling Service by calling 1-866-96-THINK, select the sales option, and asking for part number #06P7513 or online. For a limited time, customers purchasing the Lenovo Recycling Service will receive a $50 rebate toward the purchase of any new Lenovo product. For more information, visit their website.

Lexmark
Lexmark offers recycling programs for ink jet cartridges, toner cartridges and hardware. See their website for more information.

Sams Club
EcoNEW allows anyone to redeem their unwanted electronics for a Sam’s Club gift card, the value of which is determined by the quantity and quality of electronics traded in. The program accepts most consumer electronics and office equipment. Program officials stated that all electronics collected will be processed domestically, with a no-landfill guarantee. Items will be evaluated for re-use or re-sale before being disassembled for recycling.

LG Electronics and Waste Management: The LG Electronics Recycling Program
The LG Electronics Recycling Program provides consumers with a free and convenient way of recycling their used, unwanted, obsolete or damaged LG consumer electronic products by dropping them off at a designated Waste Management eCycling Center.

RadioShack Online Trade-In Program
The RadioShack Online Trade-In Program allows customers to exchange used, portable electronics for a RadioShack gift card.
