Kent County Energy Use

Kent County Reduction Program

In 2009, the Kent County Board of Commissioners adopted a Policy for an Energy Use Reduction Program. To assist in implementing this policy, the County Administrator has appointed a work team comprised of members from the Kent County Sheriff's Department, Facilities Management, Human Resources, Fiscal Services, County Clerk/Register of Deeds, and County Administration which meet monthly to discuss and review energy projects, ideas, and energy use. The Energy Committee is also responsible for educating County employees and making them aware of methods to reduce energy consumption.

One of the projects currently being managed by the work team is a $2.8 million formula grant awarded by the Department of Energy through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. To plan for the implementation of these funds and to meet the Department of Energy (DOE) funding requirements, Kent County developed an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy to guide the short-term use of these funds as well as a longer-term strategy for energy conservation and cost avoidance (For a copy of the full report, click here).

As the Energy Work Team moves forward, we will begin posting projects and information related to the County's energy use and reduction of energy use.
