School Board Filing Procedures & Requirements

| Candidate Qualifications: | State law requires that candidates be a citizen of the United States and a qualified and registered elector of the school district they wish to represent by the filing deadline. |
| Filing Requirements: | - An Affidavit of Identity is required from all candidates. - Petitions containing sufficient signatures OR a nonrefundable filing fee of $100. |
| Petition Signature Requirements: | Petition signature requirements are based on the population of the
school district, and must be of registered electors of the school district.

If you collect signatures from residents of more than one municipality, use a separate petition sheet for each municipality. Voters may sign only the number of petitions equal to the number of offices being filled. |
| Filing Deadline: | Filings must be made in the office of the appropriate Clerk (either
City or County) by 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Candidates are urged to file early; if petition signatures are not acceptable, and the approved number falls below the minimum required, we will contact you to advise you of the shortfall. If, however, a shortfall in the number of signatures required is discovered near or after the filing deadline, you will not be permitted an extension, and your name will not appear on the ballot. |
| Withdrawal: | Candidates wishing to withdraw must submit in writing no later than 4:00 P.M. on Friday, February 12, 2010. |
| Campaign Finance: | It is your responsibility to contact the County Clerk (632-7650) to determine what requirements you may be subject to regarding campaign finance. You should do this prior to expending funds, advertising, or placing signs in support of your campaign, to avoid improper activities. See: Campaign Finance Explanation (PDF). |
