How Can I Find Out About Available Employment Opportunities?

Job opportunities are posted at this website (see job opportunities), the Kent County Human Resources Department, Grand Rapids Press (Sunday edition), El-Vocero Hispano, El Hispano, Grand Rapids Times, Career Matrix, various schools and community agencies in the area and local libraries.

When there is a vacancy in a specialized field where there may be a lack of qualified applicants, every effort is made to reach these applicants through newspapers, professional journals and universities throughout the country.

How Do I Apply For a Clerical Position?

Each applicant who wishes to apply for a clerical position must complete a Kent County Application for Employment along with a preference sheet. Applicants are required to take a typing, Word and Excel test (approximately one hour). Testing is available on a walk-in basis.

After application and testing requirements have been met, each applicant will meet with a Human Resources representative for a brief 10-15 minute screening interview.

Candidates will receive further consideration for available positions based on qualifications, work experience and skill assessment test results. Applications will remain in the clerical pool and active for a period of ninety days.

What Happens to My Application Once Submitted?

The information you have provided on your application will be reviewed by a Human Resources Specialist after the closing date of the position(s). You will be notified by telephone if you are selected for an interviews. If you are not selected for an interview, you will be notified by mail within a reasonable time after the position closing date.

Is a Civil Service Exam Required?

No.

Where do I Park?

There are a variety of locations in the downtown area. Please note that most require a parking fee. (Paid parking is provided to employees of Kent County.)
