Anyone can purchase a death certificate as long as they have the name of the person at the time of death and the date of death.

• To obtain copies of Death Certificates from other counties in Michigan contact the county clerk of that county. To obtain copies of Death Certificates from other states contact the vital records office in that state.

The charge for a certified copy of a death certificate from Kent County is:

• $10.00 for the first copy
• $3.00 for each additional copy of the same record.

For online and mail orders, the search fee for a death certificate is $10 and includes one certified copy. Additional copies of the same record are $3 for each copy. A nominal convenience fee also applies to your order total for online requests. (Search and convenience fees are non-refundable.)
