Resume Form | Sports Commission Subcommittee Final Report
GRAND RAPIDS, MICH (December 14, 2006) – Earlier today, the Kent County Board of Commissioners approved the creation of the West Michigan Sports Commission (WMSC) and announced that it is seeking applications from individuals interested in becoming a part of the West Michigan Sports Commission Board.
“It is envisioned that the West Michigan Sports Commission will create tangible benefits for West Michigan in terms of economic activity, quality of life, and image enhancement,” said Kent County Board Chair Roger Morgan. “The next step in this process is to appoint the forty member board and the eleven (11) member Executive Committee that will oversee the Commission’s work.”
To ensure broad representation on the Sports Commission Board, twenty-nine (29) at-large representatives are being sought to round out the forty-member board.
“Kent County is looking to partner with other public and private sector organizations throughout West Michigan to expand its share of the sports tourism market. Creating the West Michigan Sports Commission is an excellent way to see that happen,” noted Chair Morgan.
Peter F. Secchia, leader of the private sector fund raising efforts for the WMSC, said, “Many in the private sector have expressed interest in supporting this Commission and the County’s firm commitment should help us reach our goals.”
Applications are available on the County website – www.accesskent.com – and need to be returned to the Board of Commissioners office by Thursday, January 4, 2007 for consideration. Appointments are expected to be made by February 1.
