DOG OWNERS MUST RENEW LICENSES BY MARCH 1ST DEADLINE
Dog Owners Must Purchase 2007 Licenses by March 1st or Face Late Fees

(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.) -- The Kent County Animal Shelter is making it easy for citizens to purchase 2007 Dog Licenses before the deadline on March 1, 2007.

In accordance with Michigan law, all dogs over four months of age must be licensed. Dog license fees range from $9.00 to $20.00 depending on the spay/neuter status of your pet. Discounts are available for senior citizens. After the deadline, the cost of a dog license doubles.

Licenses are available year-round at Kent County Animal Shelter, 711 Ball Ave, NE, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Hours will be extended, for one day only, on Saturday, February 24, 2007, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in order to give clients an opportunity to beat the March 1st deadline. Residents can mail their dog license renewal to: Dog License Renewal, 711 Ball Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 without penalty as long as their renewal is postmarked before or on March 1, 2007. Licenses are also available at city and township offices from December 1, 2006 through March 1, 2007.

If the dog’s rabies vaccinations are current, residents may also renew dog licenses on-line through the Kent County Animal Shelter web site at www.accesskent.com/services. All service fees will be waived for those who choose to renew on-line. For more information please contact the Kent County Animal Shelter at (616) 336-3210 or visit us on the web at www.accesskent.com/health.
