Kent County Health Department to Hold Rededication Ceremony Friday, April 15, 2005
(Grand Rapids, Mich) -- The Kent County Health Department will hold a Rededication Ceremony on Friday, April 15, 2005, from 10:30am-12:30pm.
The Rededication Ceremony celebrates the completion of a major remodeling project at the Health Department’s 700 Fuller NE location. The project began in June of 2004 and was completed in January 2005 at a cost of $2.8 million. This is the first update the facility has received in more than two decades.
The remodeling project allowed for the interior of the building to be stripped back to its foundation and reconfigured to improve client flow, enhance client privacy, and update building security. In order to serve clients more efficiently, service areas were relocated to the main floor.
“We are extremely pleased with the results of the redesign. It’s been a long process but it was well worth it. We are now able to provide our clients with the quality service they deserve and our employees have an updated facility they can be proud of,” said Cathy Raevsky, Administrative Health Officer, Kent County Health Department.
County Administrators, state representatives, and community health partners will be on hand for the ceremony which includes a ribbon cutting and guided tours of the facility. The public is invited for guided tours from 10:30am-12:30pm.
The Kent County Health Department moved to its present location at 700 Fuller NE in 1979. With approximately 70,000 square feet of space – including a 10,000 square foot Public Health Laboratory and 10,000 square feet of clinic space – the Health Department building is home to nearly 325 employees including public health nurses, sanitarians, health educators, technicians, and public health administrators. The Kent County Health Department operates five satellite clinics located in Wyoming, Kentwood, Rockford, Sheldon Complex, and the Westside of Grand Rapids. KCHD has been in the business of providing health services to the whole of Kent County since 1931.
