The Kent County Animal Shelter to Hold Pet Adopt-a-Thon May 7, 2005

The Kent County Animal Shelter is sponsoring its annual Pet Adopt-a-thon, Saturday, May 7, at the Kent County Animal Shelter, 711 Ball N.E., from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Pet Adopt-a-thon seeks to save the lives of hundreds of local homeless pets by finding them quality homes, and by helping local families and individuals find a quality companion pet. Spaying and neutering, microchip identification, and many other extras are included in the adoption fee.

Adoption fees during the Adopt-a-thon will include the following:

  • Cats: $60 adoption fee includes all vaccinations, microchip identification, spaying or neutering, feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus tests, and a cat carrier.
  • Dogs: $125 adoption fee includes all vaccinations, microchip identification, spaying or neutering, heart worm test, and a collar and leash.

Animal Control Officials say the Pet Adopt-a-thon will provide a second chance for many quality pets that might otherwise face being euthanized. Animal control experts have long advocated spaying and neutering all pets as a means of stopping unintended breeding and pet overpopulation. However, litters of puppies and kittens are dropped off at the Animal Shelter every week.

For more information on the Adopt-A-Thon contact Sarah Houwerzyl, Kent County Animal Shelter Kennel Supervisor at 616.336.2357.
