HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO PROVIDE CHOLESTEROL AND BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS FOR AMERICAN HEART MONTH

(Grand Rapids, MI) – February is Heart Health Month and the Kent County Health Department is doing its part to improve the heart health of Kent County residents.

On Thursday, February 17, 2005, Kent County Health Department’s Health Improvement Program is offering a cholesterol and blood pressure screenings at its 700 Fuller NE, Grand Rapids location from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. The $15 cost for the screening includes: total cholesterol test, HDL “good” cholesterol check, blood pressure readings, and a heart disease and stroke risk factor analysis. Screening appointments can be scheduled by calling the Health Department at (616) 336-3037.

The Health Department is also participating in the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women Campaign. The campaign encourages everyone to wear red — such as a red dress, shirt, hat or other item — on Friday, February 4th in support of all women who have been touched by heart disease or stroke.

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease and stroke claim more women’s lives each year than the next seven causes of death combined, and nearly twice as many as all forms of cancer, including breast cancer.
