GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, June 12, 2000 - Kent County is pleased to announce the hiring of Thomas E. Carnegie to fill the newly-created position of Human Resources Manager for Equal Employment Opportunity/Compliance/Employment Relations. Mr. Carnegie previously served as an executive in the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. He will begin work for the County on June 26, 2000.
Mr. Carnegie has spent 30+ years supporting civil rights causes in West Michigan and the State. In his new role, Mr. Carnegie will be involved in County compliance issues surrounding federal and state statutes and regulations governing the employment relationship. He will also implement programs and strategies to attract and retain a diverse work force for the County.

Mr. Carnegie holds a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Western Michigan University and a Master of Management Degree from Aquinas College. He is active in civil rights groups and is a member of the NAACP. He also serves on the corporate board of the Catholic Diocese of Grand Rapids.
