The Kent County Violence Prevention Coalition was formed in 1996 an as outgrowth of the Healthy Kent 2010 initiative which identified violence as a community health problem. In addition to focusing on commonly-recognized violence-related issues such as gun violence and domestic violence, the Coalition also supports education and prevention efforts that target children to help build self-esteem and reduce substance abuse, both key factors in preventing violence.
