West Nile Virus Workshop Targets Clinicians, June 12

The Kent County Health Department is sponsoring a workshop for clinicians on West Nile Virus, Thursday, June 12, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., at the Health Department, 700 Fuller N.E. Approximately 50 health care and medical professionals have registered for the workshop.
The workshop will focus on clinical and medical aspects of West Nile Virus, as well as procedures for submitting specimens for laboratory testing. Other topics to be covered include the epidemiology and pathogenesis of West Nile Virus, prevention and surveillance, and the role of the medical community in timely reporting of suspect human cases of West Nile Virus. The Health Department's 2003 West Nile Virus Action Plan and Recommendations will also be reviewed with participants.
Health officials say the clinician workshop is part of the Health Department's West Nile Virus education efforts, which have also included community educational presentations, and the distribution of some 250,000 West Nile Virus information sheets through a local news paper.
