Idema Forest Realm

It’s an all new area of the Zoo located on the second highest ridge in Grand Rapids. This area features an observation deck offering a spectacular view of the Zoo and the Grand Rapids skyline, a children’s play area, and a nature walk into the Zoo. The Forest Realm is accessible by foot or via the Idema Funicular.  This area will be the future home of tigers in 2014.

Funicular

There’s a whole new way to go up at the Zoo! The new funicular rides on an elevated track to the Idema Forest Realm and Bissell Treehouse. There is an upper and lower depot so choose to ride up, ride down, or purchase a round-trip ticket. The trip takes a quick 4 minutes. 

Gift Shop and Front Entrance

Be sure to make a stop at the all new gift shop located at the front entrance.  It’s more than three times the size of the old gift shop and will carry three times the one-of-a-kind merchandise!   Also new this year will be convenient restrooms, a membership service center, and the lower funicular depot. 

Bissell Treehouse

This premier rental facility offers a wrap around deck, floor to ceiling windows and a breathtaking view of the cityscape.
