Activities and Events
Disc Golf
Johnson Park and
Brewer Park have disc golf courses. The courses are open during park hours
and there is no fee to play. The tees are marked with yardage and par. Disc
golf is continually increasing in popularity.
Swimming
The Kent County Parks Department boasts four swimming beaches. Myers Lake, Long Lake, Millennium and Wabasis Lake Parks all have sandy beaches and bath houses. Swimming is great exercise and a fun way to stay cool during a hot summer day!
Geocaching
Geocaching (pronounced “geocashing”) is a family-friendly activity that uses a handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) unit to locate a “cache” hidden somewhere within the Kent County Parks. (More information)
Hiking
There are several parks
you can walk through and enjoy the fall colors and fresh air. The trails through
Kent Trails, Lamoreaux
Park, Palmer Park , Pickerel
Lake Fred Meijer Nature Preserve, Seidman
Park, Townsend Park and Wabasis
Lake Park are especially ideal for hiking and viewing fall colors. Rogue
River is now a staging area for the White Pine Trail State Park. The entrance
is located off Belmont Road.
Cross Country Skiing
Cross country skiing is a great way to see the outdoors. Trails can be found at:
- Lamoreaux Park,
- L.E. Kaufman Cross Country Course,
- Palmer Park,
- Pickerel Lake,
- Provin Trails Park,
- Seidman Park and
- Wahlfield Park.
Palmer Park & Pickerel Lake have groomed trails.

The trails in these parks range from 2 miles to
15 miles. The difficulty level is from beginner to expert.
Sledding
Sledding is fun for all ages. What really makes it fun is finding a great hill. Good quality sledding hills can be found at Johnson Park, Caledonia Park and Wabasis Lake Park. None of these hills are lit at night and close at dusk.
