Learn more about the new boating center coming to Millennium Park.

May 21, 2011 – The DeVos Family Boathouse is open for business!

April 6, 2011 –Just like at the beach house, the entryway to the new boathouse is decorated with tiles that were created by local children at the grand opening of Millennium Park.

April 6, 2011 – Except for some final details, construction of the new DeVos Family Boathouse is now complete. Landscaping will be added soon for the finishing touch.

January 11, 2011 – The first shipment of paddleboats arrives!

January 3, 2011 – Most of the exterior work is now complete and attention will turn to finishing the inside of the boathouse. Work is also continuing on the boardwalk and path connecting the boating center to the splashpad area of the beach.

December 8, 2010 – The floating docks are now in place, despite the ice on the water. The docks and attached ramp will rise and fall with seasonal changes in lake level that occur throughout the year.

December 7, 2010 – Stonework, roof shingles and most windows are in place now, as seen in this view from the end of the south parking lot.

November 23, 2010 – The shape of the roof is evident now, as a rare bit of sunshine breaks through the winter clouds.

November 16, 2010 – With the roof framing going up, the new boathouse is really starting to take shape. The ramp down to the docks wraps back around the building in this photo. The ramp leading off to the left will provide easy access to the splashpad and beach.

October 28, 2010 – This photo taken from across the lake shows the placement of the new boating center relative to the Beach house and Splashpad. At the construction site, the joists are now in for the decking that will bring boaters down to the docks. Also, the walls are up on the north end of the building, which will house restrooms.

October 18, 2010 – Workers pour the floor for the new boat house, while the lower deck that will eventually connect with the floating docks begins to take shape.

October 8, 2010 – This photo was taken from the opposite direction as the September 29 image. The foundation walls for the boating center are now in place. The tall pillars between the foundation and the water will be stone-covered deck posts. The floor of the deck will be about 4 ft. below the tops of the posts. Rented kayaks and canoes will launch from the sandy beach to the left. The clock tower and splashpad are marked to help you orient yourself.

September 29, 2010 – The new footings are starting to reveal the shape of things to come. To the right and in the far background are the supports for the ramp and decking that will lead boaters down to the floating docks. The footings in the foreground will support the elevated boardwalk that will connect the boating center to the splashpad and beach. The workers in the center are assembling the forms for foundation of the new building.
