Citizen Corp Council

The Kent County and Grand Rapids LEPCs make up the Kent County Citizen Corp Council. “The local Citizen Corp Council builds on community strengths to implement the Citizen Corps programs and carry out a local strategy to have every American participate.”

“The mission of Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education; training and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues and disasters of all kinds.” The Citizen Corp Council oversees the activities of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT); Fire Corps (a program which is just getting started in Kent County); the Medical Reserve Corp (MRC); Neighborhood Watch Programs in Kent County and City of Grand Rapids and Volunteers In Policing (VIPS) program in Kent County.

The Kent County Citizen Corp Council meets every other month at the Kent County Sheriff Dept directly after the Kent County LEPC meetings, at approximately 2:30 PM. During each Citizen Corp Council meeting each program coordinator gives an update on their group’s activities. The Kent County Citizen Corp Council also has a representative on the Regional Citizen Corp Subcommittee to discuss federal grant opportunities.
