College Internship Criteria and Scheduling

Kent County Sheriff Department works closely with area colleges to afford students enrolled in a Criminal Justice Program an opportunity to complete an internship with the department. The internship requires no less than 80 hours but no more than 200 hours of commitment, depending upon college program.

The Kent County Sheriff's Department makes every effort to schedule the intern specifically in their area of interest (i.e. Road Patrol, Corrections, Forensics).

A student applying for an internship will be required to pass a background investigation and attend an interview conducted by the Training Unit Supervisor.

If you have an interest in an internship with the Kent County Sheriff Department, please contact either your college advisor or the Kent County Training Unit by phone at (616) 632-6283 or by email at tamara.mcdiarmid@kentcountymi.gov.
