Personal & Professional Visitation
Do you have a family member or friend lodged at the Kent County Jail you wish to visit or contact? Below is some helpful information.
Personal Visitation
The person wishing to visit must come to the visiting/information desk at the Kent County Correctional Facility and register. They must present to the Deputy a valid, pictured government-issued I.D. to verify their identity. General population inmates will receive one (1) visit per week. These visits will last thirty (30) minutes. Only two (2) visitors will be allowed to visit. The inmates will be allowed to visit five (5) days a week if eligible. There will be no personal visits on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Inmates housed in classification pods will not visit until arraigned and moved to a general housing unit. To check on the status if an inmate is eligible you may call (616) 632-6300.
Trusty Personal Visits
Visiting hours for trusties will take place only in the evening Wednesday through Sunday from 6:00 pm till 10:00 pm and you need to be signed in by 9:15 pm. Working trusties will receive 2 one-hour visits per week.
Married Inmates (Inside the Facility) Visiting
Married inmates will be allowed to visit when both are incarcerated. Married inmate shall be responsible to prove they are legally married. Married inmates will be limited to using one thirty (30) minute visit per week.
Visits for Hospitalized Inmates
An inmate that has been admitted into the hospital will not be allowed visitors. Attorney or emergency visits due to serious medical conditions must be approved by Jail Administration or on duty Shift Sergeant only. These approved visits are subject to the hospital’s visitation rules. The person wishing to visit must come to the visiting/information desk at the Kent County Correctional Facility and register as with any visit. Thevisiting/information officer will not give the pass to the visitor without the Deputy at the hospital giving the final approval. The visitor, upon arriving at the inmate’s hospital room, must present to the Deputy a valid, pictured government-issued I.D. to verify their identity.
Juvenile Inmates' Visiting
Visiting for the juvenile population will occur only on Mondays. Morning visiting hours will be from 8:00 am to 11:00 am and you need to be signed in by 10:15 am. The Afternoon visiting hours will be from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and you need to be signed in by 3:15 pm. The Evening visiting hours will be from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm and you need to be signed in by 9:15 pm.
Administrative Segregation Visiting
Visiting for the
administrative segregation units will take place on Friday, Saturday,
and Sundays only. The visiting hours are from 7:30 am to 9:00 am. The
person wishing to visit must come to the visiting/information desk at
the Kent County Correctional Facility and register. They must present
to the Deputy a valid, pictured government-issued I.D. to verify their
identity. The inmates will receive one (1) visit per week. These visits
will last thirty (30) minutes via video visitation. Only two (2) visitors
will be allowed to visit.
Honor Camp Visiting
Visiting hours are for immediate family: Sunday 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm. For girlfriends the hours are: Saturday 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm. Attorneys and ministers may visit at any time. Community Reentry Center Visitation
Visiting hours are Wednesday and Friday – 7:00 pm. – 9:30 pm and Sunday – 1:00 pm. – 4:00 pm. Attorneys and ministers may visit at any time. He/she should call ahead to make arrangements. Inmates must sign up their specific visitor(s) during the week for any of the visiting days. The times that are signed up for are for a specific time period. If the visitor does not show up, the visit is still counted against that inmates visit. An inmate may only sign up for the number of visits that he is eligible for at that time. Exceptions: Consideration will be given for out of town visitors who may be allowed even if they have not signed up, and emergencies which may arise where the visitor cannot make the visit i.e. a medical emergency. Professional Visitation
The Professional visitors wishing to visit must come to the visiting/information desk at the Kent County Correctional Facility and register. They must present to the Deputy a valid approved issued I.D. to verify their identity. Professional visitors without any of the following listed approved I.D’s must get prior approval to visit an inmate from the Jail Administration by calling (616) 632-6400 or Inmate Services Administrator by calling (616) 632-6360.

If a professional visitor comes to visit during a weekend or holiday, and does not have approved ID or prior approval from the Jail Administration or Inmate Services Administrator, he/she will not be allowed to visit. He/she must contact the Jail Administration by calling (616) 632-6400 or Inmate Services Administrator by calling (616) 632-6360, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Professional visitors will be allowed to visit at any time except during facility lockdowns. The lockdown times are 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and 10:00 pm to 8:00 am. Professional visits will not count against the inmate’s weekly personal visits.
Procedure for Professional Visiting
The professional visitor will come into the visiting/info lobby and fill out a visiting pass. The visiting/info officer will verify the professional visitor’s identification. The professional visitor will give the visiting/info officer his/her ID and receive professional visitor’s ID tag. The professional visitor shall be reminded that no photography, or recording devices, or cellular telephones are allowed within the Correctional Facility. The professional visitor shall provide to the visiting/info officer individual passes for each inmate(s) he/she wishes to visit. Professional visitors will wait in the visiting/info lobby if booths are unavailable.
The professional will, using the elevator, go to A1M. He/she will proceed down the hallway and either goes into building E and takes the elevator to E1 or take the elevator in C1 to the appropriate floor. Once off the elevator (and in the security corridor) the professional visitor will surrender the pass to the floor control officer in C building or the visiting control officer in E building, who will then direct him/her to the specific visiting room indicated on the pass. The floor control or visiting control officer will notify the housing unit officer of the inmate needed. He/she will send the inmate.
After the visit, the floor control officer in C building or the visiting control officer in E building will call the housing unit officer to advise him/her of the inmates return. After all visiting has been completed; the professional visitor will return the pass(s) to the visiting/info officer, who will return the professionals ID to him/her.
