Kent County Metro Cold Case Team

About Us

The Kent Metro Cold Case Team was formed through a cooperative effort of state, county and local law enforcement agencies in Kent County. It is currently comprised of detectives from the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, the Grand Rapids Police Department and the Michigan State Police. The team office is located at the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, 701 Ball St, Grand Rapids MI.

Mission

The mission of the Cold Case Team is to investigate and bring resolution to unsolved homicides, and missing persons where homicide is the likely cause.

Tips

In many instances, information provided by an individual is the only avenue left to solve an old homicide. If you are reading this and you believe you have information that can assist us, we ask you to consider the victims family and to make the phone call to Silent Observer at 616-774-2345, you do not have to give your name and you may just bring closure to a victims loved ones.

Current Cases

Bonita Oom

The team is seeking information on the 1986 murder of Bonita Lynne Oom.

Bonita Oom went missing in the early morning hours of 09/04/1986, after leaving her residence near the corner of Knapp St. and Coit Ave. in the city of Grand Rapids. Her body was discovered on 09/07/86 off of Pickerel Dr. near Ramsdell Dr. in Kent County’s Cannon Township.

Robin Welso

The Team is also reviewing and seeking information on the 1984 murder of Robin Welso.

Robin Welso was last seen leaving the Intersection Bar in the early morning hours of 12/29/1984. Her body was discovered on 12/31/84 in 400 block of Charles St, in the City of Grand Rapids.

Dean Marie Pyle (Peters)

Finally, the team is seeking information on the disappearance of Dean Marie Plye (Deanie Peters).

Deanie Peters was last seen in the Forest Hills Central Middle School Gym on 02/05/1981. Deanie was 14 years of age at the time of her disappearance and was last seen wearing a brown ski jacket, a pink sweater and blue jeans.
