Probation Residential Centers
The Michigan Office of Community Corrections currently contracts with two service providers in Kent County to provide residential services for non-violent high-risk offenders who would likely receive jail and/or prison sentences. Alternative Directions and Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services (Pine Rest) provide structured rehabilitative and treatment environments that free jail bed space at the Kent County Correctional Facility for more serious offenders. During FY 2008, Kent County has been awarded funding for 68 residential beds per day.
Residential centers provide both core and non-core services to enrolled offenders. Core services provided by Alternative Directions and Pine Rest include (as examples) room and board, case management, intake and assessment, transportation, and referral to other appropriate treatment services. While enrolled in a residential program, an offender will have a wide range of additional non-core services available to them based upon the offender’s identified needs. These needs may include substance abuse treatment, mental health services, GED preparation and testing, plus employment training programming.
